So Many Sites, So Little Time: How to Maintain Your Social Networking Sites

social media seo tips and tricks resized 600Keeping track of your social media sites can be much tougher than you think and the more you engage with your contacts, that harder it gets. So, how do you rein in your social networks to ensure you are maximizing your time?

Here are few options you can follow to simplify your social networking.

Aggregators
  • An aggregator is a tool that puts all your social networking sites onto one platform and brings all the content onto one screen. There are may free aggregators that will link to your Facebook profile & pages, Twitter and LinkedIn accounts.  A few commonly used free aggregators are:
    • Hootsuite
    • Tweetdeck
    • Ping.Fm
    • Seesmic
There are also several apps that you can use as well. Some include LiveGo, Seemic, TweetDeck and more!

Dedicated Routine
  • Give yourself dedicated time slots throughout the day to check all of your social networking sites. At HJMT we monitor pretty much all day long, but if you don’t have a social media department we suggest checking at least three times a day. Once in the morning, once during midday and once in the evening.  You may find it easiest to do this right before your three meals a day!
Manage your Notifications
  • Pings, Dings and Vibrations can get extremely overwhelming (and distracting) if you have a notification on your phone for every post, tag and comment on your social networking sites.  Take the time to filter you notification settings so that the important information is what comes through.
 Have a Social Media Plan
  • You wouldn’t start a business without a plan, so why would you start managing social networking sites without one? Creating and following a social media plan will make maintaining your sites easier and free up time for you.  But how? A social media plan should include a timeline of topics and a slew of posts for each social networking site. By having everything planned out you are able to quickly focus on engaging your community, rather than researching and coordinating posts for just one day.
