What is the Importance of a Logo?

text only logos resized 600A logo is the most importance part of your company. This is how people will remember you. It serves as a symbol that represents what your company does. Even though it may seem like a simple visual tool, logos can actually do a lot. They promote awareness of your company’s existence and attract potential clients. Your logo should be unique to stand out from the rest.

Company names can be difficult for a potential client to remember, but logos are not. A logo can express what your company is about without having to really think about it. Once your logo is established, you will be recognized. For example, think of the Coca Cola or Nike logos, everyone knows what they represent.

There are many different logos out there and will fall under the following categories:

Typographic Logos- The logo consists of any letters or words. These types of logos do not use any symbols or pictures. Ebay and Google use this type of logo.

Figurative Logos- Figurative logos can have a combination of an icon and wordmark. The icon represents something that is not abstract like Shell and Apple’s company logos.

Abstract Logos- Abstract logos are a combination of a pictogram and a tagline. These are visual interpretations of the subject.

Combined Logos- Combined logos use different types of logos together.

There are a few key elements to follow when designing a logo. Remember, your logo should be unique and versatile. Your logo should not have any symbols or taglines that resemble or are used by any other companies. Potential clients should not have the impression they’ve seen a similar logo. Unique logos are memorable and leave no room for confusion. It should also be compatible enough to use within different media.

The most common problem with logos is that they may look great in one particular size but when they are scaled either vertically or horizontally, they may be less appealing. The solution is to make your logo as simple as possible while keeping in mind that it will be used in different sizes. Note, complex logos that have a ton of detail are not as effective as the simpler ones.

Do not use special effects. Although adding certain effects may “look” artistic, it does not make the logo effective. The additional artwork can make the logo less memorable. Also, logos should not require constant updating. Logos that fail to meet these standards will not last long.

Getting help from a graphic designer is the smartest way to get the right results. HJMT offers these services. We can create unique logos and evaluate their effectiveness. Contact Nicole@hjmt.com for more info.
